Changes to my study programme

 

Hi, everyone, today I will speek about my career and some changes it should have. First, this career has various nature-related subjects, where everything from animals to the components of the environment are treated. But this career is guided to conserve with the perspective of green capitalism and the extractivist model over the preservation of nature. I think this needs to be change, because today, we all need to take care of the environment.

On the other hand, Renewable Natural Resources Engineering, has a heavy workload because the teachers are demanding with us. A friend of mine who is on student exchange, told me that in Chile we study too much. With respect to the duration of studies is supposed to last 5 years, but because it is so demanding, it extends a little more, where the average is 7 years.

In Antumapu the infrastructure is not very good, in winter it rains in the corridors, no elevators, some computers are in bad condition and the library is not very good, because it is not conditioned for students.

Anyway, Antumapu is very beautiful with their green areas, their puppis, with their farm and their parties, like pergolazos. The people of the campus are very nice, even if they are hippies. I like going to antumapu, even though the remoteness of the campus and its structural flaws.

Well, everything has something that could be improved.

Time to travel to the past or future

 

In this moment, I would like to travel for the past, specifically to the 80’s or 70’s, because now I feel that there were not so many concerns about climate change, today’s climate change is irreversible and to me, this a concerns does not leave me alone, so I would like to enjoy all the landscapes that exist.

 Also, I love the style that existed, like grunge style, and the music that existed at the moment. I'd also like to be there at that time to go to a Nirvana or Alice in chains concert, when Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley were alive ☹.

 I would like to attend to concerts and festivals at the time, like Woodstock. I have seen videos of these festivals and I would like to be there with the people and enjoy the music, as seen in a Santana video.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t like to stay at the time, because in the world was the Cold War, and in Chile there was the dictatorship, and that’s something that scares me. I feel the sentiment of what the people had to go through and I think it was something so difficult, and I hope that never has to happen again.

Although it was a good time for music I think, I would not be in those years, at least in Chile, it would only be a sporadic trip to travel and attend concerts and enjoy them.

My dream job

 

In the future, I imagine working in a Natural Reserve observing animals and plants, but mostly sorting animals, because I love wildlife and I have greater knowledge of this. Besides, I imagine myself working with animals and I feel it would do me a lot of good for my soul.

One of the skills I would need, is a general knowledge about classification of animals, if they belong an endemic species or native species, if they are mammals, birds, reptiles, etc. Most of these skills I had in university, but I would like to have more with the passage of time.

With respect to salary, I researched on the internet and a natural renewable resources engineer receives within the 700 thousand to one million CLP salary, but it varies according to the specialty of each one, but for me, I don’t care about the money if I do something that I like.

I am currently studying renewable natural resources engineering, but I would like to specialize in Chilean wildlife when I have the opportunity because when I had the course of “Chilean flora and fauna” I loved it. I hope that in time this will become possible, and I will learn more about this subject so that I can realize my dream job.

Holidays with the nature

 

My best holidays ever was it in a travel on the south of Chile. I started in Constitución, which is located in Maule región.  Here, I was able to visit the Gringos Beach, rocky formations like the Lovers Arc, and the Orrego Island, where I could get on a kayak for the first time. I was in Constitution for a week, with my boyfriend.

After this week, we head to Valdivia, where we can visit Niebla and Corral, along with their system of forts, which were built in the sixteenth century.

Also, we visit breweries such as Kunsmann and Growler, which have a wide variety of craft beers that have received international awards.

We were only able to spend three days in Valdivia, because we were going to meet up in Puerto Montt with some friends from university. Once together, we headed to the Cochamó valley, where we visited beautiful places, such as the natural slides, where to get there, we had to trek for 3 hours just to spend the day there.

In the next three days that I was on vacation, I visited more beautiful places, like the blue lake in Llanada Grande, the tagua tagua lake in Primer Corral, and the Inferior lake in Segundo Corral.

I think this vacation was the best so far because I was able to connect with nature in a way that I had never done before.

A country I would to visit

 I would like to visit Noruega, because this country has the most beautiful things to see, like the  northern lights. 

 Also, this country has a welfare state that prioritize values such as equality and equal rigths where everybody have the same rights, no matter their gender, sexual identity, ethnicity or abilities.

 On the other hand, I would like to be in the viking ship museum in Oslo, because i love history and I would like to learn about the vikings, and in Oslo we have a lot of this with the most preserved vikings ships in the World, like Oseberg ship.

In the future, when I finish my studies, I would like to live in another country. Is not necessary that be Norway, Im going to think in that when I have the economic resources and also when I have a family with do that. Maybe could be an European Country or here, in the south of Chile. Anyways, thats good to think in that, even still a lot of time to decide.
